Wedding Hair and Makeup: How to Look Your Most Beautiful at Your Wedding

By Brandie

Wedding hair and makeover packages can be extremely expensive. The price for wedding hair and makeup tends to range widely depending on your locale, the number of guests, and/or specific services you’re looking to arrange. On the lower end, cheap wedding hair and makeup and hair styling may cost around $60 for an individual application, while in larger cities, full-blown wedding hair and makeup packages could cost more than $1,000. Of course, there is also the possibility of spending a small fortune on your hair, makeup, and wedding hair and makeup. Before committing to an extravagant hair and makeover package, make sure you’ve done all your research, and that you truly have a clear picture of what’s included in your proposed order.

Some brides think they’ll save money by booking everything separately. While some items are usually excluded from wedding day packages, make sure any accessories or special requests are included in your final price. For instance, many wedding photographers charge extra if they include flower photos, wedding photos with frames, or a video along with the regular service. Wedding hairstylists charge extra for extra-long or extra Fullerness (e.g. bangs, extensions, etc.) and alterations; so do florists and caterers for additional services.

If you have friends who have had wonderful experiences with a particular salon or beauty artist, ask their opinion. Friends also have first-hand experience with salons and beauty artists, so it’s often best to ask a trusted friend or relative. If none of your friends or family members have had stellar experiences, you can always check the website of the Better Business Bureau to see if any complaints have been filed against the salon or artist. If you do decide to book with a particular salon or artist, call them to make sure they were on your list of recommended salons to avoid any future problems.

The biggest mistake many brides and stylists make is hiring an unknown salon or stylist without trial services. A trial service is essentially when a stylist gives you a try-out haircut, then provides you with a written report on how your hair looks after the cut. Most likely, a stylist will not charge for this type of trial service, but it’s best to ask before the big day. You might be surprised at the cost of such a service.

Some artists offer a makeup trial to potential customers. These offers are typically limited-time affairs, so it might be difficult to get in for such a trial, especially if you’ve already selected a gown and hair color. More than likely, you will have to wait for your turn to get your makeup done. So, be prepared to wait for your turn, but don’t let that stop you from trying out new artists.

Trial services allow the bride and groom to get their hair done and their makeup done without having to pay the full price for the services all at once. It can be a great way to find out if the artist and salon are the right ones for you, since trial services tend to last only for a few hours. It can also help you get an idea of the hours the artists and hairstylists work. Remember, just because a salon offers a trial service doesn’t mean it will be the right one for your big day. So, talk to friends, family members, and your bridesmaids to see who has had good experiences with the artists or hairstylists in your area.
